Assessment 8: Interview

This interview was conducted with Mark Diaz a gameplay programmer at id Software. This interview was very interesting and Mr. Diaz had a great deal of information and insight into the game industry and how college can help build the skills needed for the industry. As a whole, this interview was very helpful and enhanced my understanding of game engines and the technical skills needed for gameplay programmers to be successful.

id Software Artist Interview

Assessment 6: Interview

This third interview was conducted over lunch with Alexis List an environment artist at id Softwares. This interview was very interesting and Ms.List had a lot of insight on the games industry and some of the more current techniques that are entering the industry. As a whole, this interview was very helpful and furthered my understanding of modeling and texturing and newer techniques that are used in the industry.

Gearbox Software Interview

Assessment 5: Interview

The second interview of this year was conducted at Gearbox Studios with Kai Webb, a hard surface 3D modeler. We spoke about various topics including the process of creating a game ready asset and the pipeline between the departments at a game development studio. These topics are all very important to the work done by a content artist in a game development studio. Overall the interview was very informative and I learned about how a larger studio functions.

Bonus XP Interview

Assessment 4: Interview

This interview was conducted with Austin Chalk an environment and visual effects artist at Bonus XP a video game studio in the Dallas area. He spoke about various topics that are linked to the games industry such as the roles different people play in a studio depending on the size of the studio and the workflow he uses to create game-ready assets. Overall this interview was very helpful as the information I gained will be helpful in the future as I move towards original work.
